Summer Guide 2017

18 concerts to see at the Lakeview Amphitheater this coming season

The Lakeview Amphitheater opened last year. The venue holds up to 17,500 people with reserved seating and general admission in the pit areas.

In its second year the Lakeview Amphitheater will put on 18 shows during the summer through September. Acts will include country, pop, rock, kid music and two music festivals.

The amphitheater is an outdoor concert venue overlooking Onondaga Lake. Located at 490 Restoration Way, it is an extension of the Empire Expo Center within the New York State Fairgrounds. The venue holds up to 17,500 people.

All seats within the pavilion have reserved seating except for the general admission pit areas near the stage for designated shows and the general admission Express Mart lot on the outskirts of the venue. Here are some of the most notable acts the Lakeview Amphitheater will host this summer:

Zac Brown Band

When: June 24 at 7 p.m.



About the concert: American country music group Zac Brown Band from Atlanta will perform its “Welcome Home” 2017 tour set.

Something to know before you go: Zac Brown Band has three platinum selling albums, a historic 15 No. 1-hit radio singles and is the second group to top both country and active rock formats. The group’s previous tour called “Blackout the Sun” broke attendance record at Fenway Park in Boston.

 

Bob Dylan

When: June 25 at 8 p.m.

About the concert: Bob Dylan and his band will perform songs from Dylan’s new album “Triplicate.”

Something to know before you go: “Triplicate” is Dylan’s 38th studio album and is his first three-disc album featuring thirty brand new covers of classic American songs.

 

Third Eye Blind

When: June 30 at 8 p.m.

About the concert: On the group’s “Summer of Gods” tour, rock band Third Eye Blind will perform with special guests Silversun Pickups and Ocean Park Standoff.

Something to know before you go: Songwriters Stephan Jenkins and Kevin Cadogan signed the band’s first major recording contract, which was the largest publishing deal for an unsigned artist.

 

TK99/WOUR Rock the Amp

When: July 11 at 7:30 p.m.

About the concert: Celebrating 40 years of music, rock band Foreigner will perform along with Cheap Trick and special guest Jason Bonham. Cheap Trick is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of its self-titled album.

Something to know before you go: The tour follows the May 5 release of Foreigner’s album “Forty Hits From Forty Years.” The compilation album includes two new original songs entitled “The Flame Still Burns” and “Give My Life For Love.”

 

Lady Antebellum

When: July 13 at 7:30 p.m.

About the concert: This American country music trio will perform its “You Look Good” tour, which is its fifth headlining concert tour.

Something to know before you go: After taking time off to pursue individual projects in 2016, the members of Lady Antebellum plan to reunite the band and return to the road on its 2017 tour.

 

Kidz Bop

When: July 14 at 6 p.m.

About the concert: Family-friendly popular music group Kidz Bop will headline its national live tour, showcasing covers and choreography of pop songs.

Something to know before you go: Kidz Bop’s 34th studio album features top 100 covers including Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” Sia’s “The Greatest” and Alessia Cara’s “Scars to Your Beautiful.”

 

Incubus

When: July 15 at 8 p.m.

About the concert: American rock band Incubus will perform its eighth tour set with special guests Jimmy Eat World and Atlas Genius.

Something to know before you go: Together since 1991, the band Incubus first earned mainstream recognition with the release of its album “Make Yourself.”

 

Outlaw Music Festival

When: July 16 at 4 p.m.

About the concert: Established in 2016, the Outlaw Music Festival will host a lineup including Willie Nelson and Family, My Morning Jacket and Sheryl Crow.

Something to know before you go: The Outlaw Music Festival was created by Willie Nelson.

 

KROCKATHON

When: July 19 at 6 p.m.

About the concert: This annual alternative rock and metal festival will showcase a mix of nationally-touring and local groups including Korn with Stone Sour, Skillet, Yelawolf and DED.

Something to know before you go: KROCKATHON, a rock concert hosted by K-Rock radio station (WKRL, WKRH), took a one-year hiatus in 2016, the first in 20 years, but will return to Syracuse this summer.

 

Boston

When: July 29 at 7:30 p.m.

About the concert: Rock band Boston will perform its Hyper Space Tour with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Something to know before you go: Boston has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Some of the band’s best-known songs include “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind” and “Foreplay/Long Time.”

 

Kings of Leon

When: Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.

About the concert: Rock group Kings of Leon will perform alongside special guests Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

Something to know before you go: Kings of Leon is composed of brothers Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill and Jared Followill, with cousin Matthew Followill.

 

Goo Goo Dolls

When: Aug. 11 at 8 p.m.

About the concert: The Goo Goo Dolls, an American rock band, will perform its “Long Way Home” tour with special guest Phillip Phillips.

Something to know before you go: Formed in Buffalo, New York, the Goo Goo Dolls were initially named the “Sex Maggots.”

 

Luke Bryan

When: Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

About the concert: Country artist Luke Bryan will perform his “Huntin’ Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day” tour alongside special guests Brett Eldredge and Craig Campbell.

Something to know before you go: Luke Bryan has sold more than 7 million albums worldwide and has co-produced all four of his albums.

 

Joe Bonamassa

When: Aug. 16 at 8 p.m.

About the concert: American blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa will perform a set of original songs.

Something to know before you go: Joe Bonamassa can be found on the cover of virtually every guitar magazine. He is one of the biggest names in blues rock and has 16 No.1 Billboard blues albums.

 

United We Rock

When: Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.

About the concert: REO Speedwagon, Styx and Don Felder will come together to present the United We Rock tour.

Something to know before you go: This isn’t the first time these three artists will play together. In 2009, 2012 and 2013 the trio of groups toured together and released a collaborative single called “Can’t Stop Rockin.’”

 

John Mayer

When: Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.

About the concert: John Mayer will perform his headlining concert tour “The Search for Everything” in support of his seventh studio album of the same name.

Something to know before you go: Before going solo, John Mayer formed a two-man band named “Lo-Fi Masters” with Clay Cook. Now, Mayer is a multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and record producer.

 

Brantley Gilbert

When: Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

About the concert: Singer-songwriter Brantley Gilbert will perform his “The Devil Don’t Sleep” summer tour alongside special guests Tyler Farr and Luke Combs.

Something to know before you go: Since he signed with The Valory Music Co., a division of Big Machine Records, Brantley Gilbert has four No. 1 hits. In addition to writing and performing his own music, Gilbert wrote Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem.”

 

Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows

When: Aug. 9 at 6:45 p.m.

About the concert: Co-headliners Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows will perform their “A Brief History of Everything” tour.

Something to know before you go: For the second consecutive summer, Matchbox Twenty will tour with Counting Crows. Both are internationally esteemed music groups.
