Gallery: El Calentón music festival is a celebration of SU's Latine students

As the first large-scale concert in Syracuse University's history to center Latin artists, Calentón Music Fest marks the end of Latine Heritage Month. The event began with a performance by DJ Exxtra.

People gather in Goldstein Auditorium to enjoy the musical performance. Students cheered with glow sticks in hand as the rave continued into the night.

Calentón Music Fest reaches its climax with a performance by renowned Latin artist Maldy. Maldy was formerly in the duo Plan B, which released songs like “Candy” and “Si No Le Contesto” in the 2010s.

The Caribbean Students Association is one of a series of student groups to table at the event. The Puerto Rican Student Association (PRSA) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) also tabled at Calentón.

People danced to songs played by DJ Exxtra from Caribbean genres like bachata and reggaeton. The energy from the DJ set kept the energy high while the crowd waited for Maldy.

Calentón Music Fest staff members give out free t-shirts, stickers, sunglasses and glow sticks. Las Naranjas, La L.U.C.H.A. and the Student Association collaborated to set up the event.

Raíces Dance Troupe, the only Latine dance troupe at SU, performs a dance showcase. The group danced to Spanish music and delivered an explosive performance.

Maldy performed songs like ¨Gatúbela¨ at the event. The song, which he made with Karol G, was released in August.
